Borjomi Gorge since the ancient times served as a Southern Gate for the country. The climate is quite mild here, and the nature is verdant and lush. It varies from continental sub-tropical to coastal sub-tropical. The resort is situated at 810-850m above the sea level and is surrounded by the stunning southern Caucus Mountains. It has warm summers, mild snowy winters, pure and transparent air, medicinal water and some of most beautiful scenery in Georgia (which is saying a lot) Specifically developed as a spa town by Tsar Nicholas in the 19th century, Borjomi has become far more than this, and today is a focal point for all those drawn to the healthy life. Not only does it offer a wide number of permanently spouting mineral-water springs, it adjoins the large Borjomi National Park with its many well laid out trails, over-night huts and mile upon mile of genuine virgin forest. Furthermore just forty-five minutes by car to the southeast you run into the skiing/hiking resort of Bakuriani. Set 1000 metres higher up in the clean air of the Lesser Caucasus its magnificent setting and views of the Greater Caucasus were also noted by the Tsar who built a charming narrow gage-railway linking the two resorts. This you can still take today - with its winding journey taking you through deep forest, at one time over a bridge built by Gustave Eiffel (of Eiffel tower fame). Come back and then visit the charming Romanov palace at nearby Likani. Borjomi is most famous for its celebrated mineral waters, its natural high purity and healthy chemical components make it not only pleasant to drink but also a perfect preventive and curative means against a number of diseases. The water is rich in the most vital microelements for a human organism. The water's curative effects were well known to the people of ancient times, excavations in the area have found a stone tub dating back to the 1st century. It was used for taking thermal mineral water baths. A number of gold medals and numerous diplomas gained in different international exhibitions testify to its near perfection. Nowadays Borjomi Mineral Water is world-famous as one of the best medicinal and table waters. Taste it yourself! Borjomi Mineral Water
