DAY HIKES HORSE TREKKING

The Caucasus are known for its fine breed of mountain horse, the Merani - evolving over thousands of years among high mountain pastures and passes. For thousands of years the horse has transported people to the remotest corners of the Caucasus and today will still go far beyond the limits of the most powerful 4x4s. Most treks can be made on horseback, and some of the longer trips are best accompanied by the trekker's best friend, who can carry packs and equipment.

Follow bridal paths track through shady green forests of Borjomi; step along breath-taking mountain ridges in Svaneti; canter across the flower-filled alpine pastures of Tusheti or Khevsureti; gallop the flat open planes of Gareji. Our many National Parks have many new trails which can be used in this most traditional and ecological form of travel.

Many companies in Georgia can arrange for Horse Trekking or you can simply travel yourself to almost any mountain region (such as Svaneti) and make arrangements yourself on the day of your arrival. See our Map to get more information, and to make arrangements yourself beforehand.
